Abstract

This writeup summarizes the recent CMS results on the measurements of quarkonium states and heavy flavoured mesons in pp and PbPb collisions at LHC. The CMS has excellent muon detection capability allowing measurement of charmonia states for transverse momentum \(p_T>\) 3 GeV/c while the three \(\varUpsilon \) states can be reconstructed starting at zero \(p_T\). The nuclear modification factors of quarkonium states and the ratios of excited to ground states in PbPb collisions are measured. To characterize heavy quark energy loss, CMS measures nuclear modification factors of D\(^0\) and B\(^+\) mesons in PbPb collision. An overview of these measurements is given.
