Abstract

The development of a thermodynamic model for the formation of passive films on Ni-Cr alloys that was previously designed for the Fe-Cr system is presented in this study. The potential for using this model to calculate the composition of passive films and the Flade potential of multicomponent systems is demonstrated. The similarity between the mechanism of formation of the transition layer between a passive film and an alloy upon corrosion of the alloy in aqueous solution and under high-temperature oxidation conditions is shown.
