Abstract

This article discusses the impact of sub-ballast mats on factors such as noise and vibration, analyzes the risk to human health and establishes an improvement in living conditions when using sub-ballast mats. To implement methods aimed at ensuring sanitary and epidemiological, as well as social well-being of the population, predicting and calculating the acoustic situation for a long period, assessing the effectiveness of noise protection measures, calculations of the health risk of the population exposed to excessive acoustic impact from transport facilities were carried out. Attenuation of sound emission is observed in the "source" in the low-frequency region, which has the most stable propagation and is difficult to attenuate by other means installed outside the structure due to the longest sound wavelength. In the presence of vibration-proof sub-ballast mats, the level of re-emitted noise at 10 m from the structure is no longer registered, whereas without mats it significantly exceeds the required level. Under the conditions prevailing with vibroacoustic load on residential and public buildings, when all available noise suppression measures have been exhausted, the obtained test results of vibration-protective sub-ballast mats, the results of calculating risk indicators make it possible to recommend sub-ballast mats for use in the construction and reconstruction of linear objects (railways and highways) in conditions of the current and prospective urban planning situation.
