Abstract
Abstract A method used for evaluating the effectiveness of insecticides against grass grub (Costelytra zealandica (White)) larvae. by confining them in pots of treated soil, is described. Results are given for 23 compounds for which dosage/effect lines were obtained and for an additional 20 compounds which were screened in preliminary tests only. It is suggested that materials should be selected for inclusion in field trials on the basis of high initial toxicity plus good soil residual activity. Data on the persistence of 16 organo-phosphorus insecticides in soil are given. obtained from re-infesting soil at intervals after treatment. The best prospective materials examined to date are the Bayer compounds S.4400. S.4706, and S.767. and Stauffer N-2790.
