The Smartphone VANET (Vehicle Ad-Hoc NETwork) is a novel concept for VANET using smartphones as On Board Units. VANET technology has great potential to reduce injuries and fatalities on our roadways. The smartphone presents many disadvantages compared to dedicated VANET hardware. In order to ensure that the smartphone VANET is feasible for safety applications, an Electronic Brake Light (EEBL) application has been developed for it. In this paper, we test this application in Veins VANET simulator We test the crash reduction and networking capabilities of the EEBL, and present the results.
