Abstract
The joint European Space Agency/NASA Ulysses spacecraft flew through the Jovian system in early February for a gravity‐assist boost out of the ecliptic plane on its way to its primary mission exploring the polar regions of the Sun. While in the vicinity of Jupiter, Ulysses' nine field and particle experiments probed the Jovian magnetosphere. At a February 11 press conference at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Ulysses investigators presented the initial results from the flyby. The first set of scientific papers will be published in Science this summer.
