Abstract
The current infrastructure in waste water treatment plants that is set in place to collect biomass and turn it into reusable energy is inefficient. In order to go about changing this infrastructure, it is necessary to update the treatment plants in a way that makes a difference. Anaerobic digestion is a viable option for sustainable energy and can produce biogases that can be used for combined heat and power that is far more efficient that current methods in the United States. If Middlesex County Municipal Waste incorporates a new system that includes biomass collection along with anaerobic digestion at it’s waste water treatment plants, it will be creating an efficient and sustainable source of heat and power that is better for the environment and will aid in keeping food biomass out of landfills.
