Abstract

Patient engagement in health research is a methodological approach whereby individuals living with a health condition are actively engaged throughout the research process. Engaging patient partners in research enhances participant recruitment, and reduces attrition rates once participants are enrolled (1,2), thereby reducing research “waste” (3). Qualitatively, patient engagement in clinical research cultivates trust between end-users and the scientific community, incorporating a broader diversity of perspectives and facilitating access to research findings (4,5).
