Restructuring Army Tactical Intelligence for the 21st Century

Abstract

Abstract : In the post Cold War environment, the threats to the United States have grown increasingly complex, dynamic, and uncertain. This new security paradigm poses significant challenges to military intelligence in dealing with a wider array of threats than during the Cold War. At the same time, the information technology revolution offers unbound opportunities to meet these new challenges. This paper will examine how the Army Military Intelligence Corps might reorganize its tactical intelligence forces for the 21st century. The information technology revolution has brought about a fundamental change in the nature of warfare and the associated threat environment. The challenge for Army Intelligence is to adapt to this new environment in the face of force structure cuts and declining budgets to provide timely, responsive, and rapidly deployable intelligence support to the Army and Joint Warfighter.
