Abstract

The article is devoted to the approach of restoring the appearance of a fortification object, which has been destroyed and reflected only in iconographic sources for over two centuries. The author organizes data on the visual and artistic content of the historical space of the medieval fortress-city of Kili. Lithographic sources provide a conventional artistically interpreted view of the space with preserved visual dominants. Refinements and comparisons with subsequent planning revealed a significant discrepancy between iconographic sources. The drawings of the early nineteenth century contain the true scale of the fortification elements of the medieval fortress of Kili, which coincide with the documentary sketches of the late eighteenth century. From the analyzed images and layouts, data on the appearance and configurations of the individual elements of the fortifications (towers, gates, walls, bastions) were synthesized and tabulated.
