Abstract

• This study examined the effects of dam-release pulse flows on invertebrate drift. • Invertebrate biomass concentration responded inconsistently across pulse flows. • Terrestrial invertebrate biomass was greater during baseline flows than pulse flows. • Invertebrate biomass was greatest during the first pulse, driven by aquatic taxa. • Pulse flows only provide a short-term boost in food supply for juvenile salmonids.
