Abstract

A seventy-two year old male with a medical history of long-standing and poorly-controlled arterial hypertension, dyslipidaemia and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation was referred to our hospital's cardiology outpatients service. His medications at initial assessment were: 10mg of perindopril once daily; 50mg of metoprolol twice daily; 10mg of lercanidipine once daily; 2mg of prazosin twice daily; 25mg of hydrochlorothiazide once daily; 40mg of simvastatin once daily; and warfarin. Repeated automated office blood pressure readings revealed average blood pressure (BP) levels of around 160/80mmHg.
