Abstract
Millar & Libby (1989) discuss the consequences restorationists face in using genetically inappropriate stock for restoration and re-introduction projects. They point out that using nonlocal populations to restore sites near or within areas of native populations can cause serious genetic contamination. The introduced stock, if it survives, can interbreed with natives, passing on nonnative genes or gene complexes to the offspring of native individuals. This, in turn, may affect the dynamics of the entire community and the course of evolution of the community as well as the taxon. Another problem with using propagules from nonlocal sites is that these intro-
