Abstract
Large-bodied pelagic eagle rays are known to use benthic environments to obtain food. However, resting events are not reported for species in the family Aetobatidae and are primarily associated with benthic stingrays. An observation of a whitespotted eagle ray (Aetobatus narinari) resting at an offshore coral reef atoll in Belize, described here, contributes to our limited understanding of pelagic eagle ray behaviour and habitat use.
