Abstract

This chapter examines responsible leadership from the perspective of conscious parts and conscientious wholes with oneness as the overarching theme to create connectivity among them all. In part one, responsible leadership is examined from a micro perspective, analyzing how the understanding of the autonomous self under the big five factor theory of personality and contemporary leadership theories interacts with consciousness to create the conscious leader and the parts in an organization under a multi-stakeholder framework. In part two, responsible leadership is examined from a macro perspective, analyzing how the understanding of an interdependent self under virtuousness interacts with responsible leadership to create the conscientious whole of an organization. In part three, the chapter concludes by discussing how we can draw from Chinese philosophical insights to create connectors that can be deployed to allow conscious leaders and parts in an organization to interact with stakeholders to create the conscientious whole.
