Abstract

1. The neurons of transplants of embryonal neocortex in the barrel field of adult rats respond to electrical stimulation to the ventrobasal complex of the thalamus, the posterior group of thalamus nuclei, the ipsilateral cortical zone of the motor representation of the vibrissa, and the barrel field in the contralateral hemisphere. The average latent periods of transplant neuron responses do not differ reliably from the norm. 2. Reactivity and level of convergence in transplant neurons is higher than under normal conditions, but effectiveness of influence of the recipient's brain structures are the same as those in the intact barrel field.
