Abstract
Seasonal drought and flooding severely limit pasture growth in tropical savannas. The objective of this study is to analyze and compare yield, biomass allocation, leaf growth rate and nutrient concentration of four important perennial C4 forage grasses to short term flooding and moderate drought under controlled conditions. The grasses studied were the tufted Andropogon gayanus (CIAT 621) and Hyparrhenia rufa and the stoloniferous Echinochloa polystachya and Brachiaria mutica.
