Abstract
The responses of teachers as well as their unions to the recent changes in the work of teachers such as performance-based pay, the focus on standards, and new levels of managerial control are discussed. The different though complementary perspectives on changes to teachers' work and union engagement as well as new insights to contentious issues, such as national testing are highlighted.
