Abstract

As noted in the above letters, the red ring or halo sign has recently been described by multiple observers in patients without inflammatory bowel disease. I concur that these endoscopic “lesions” are typified histologically by mucosal lymphoid aggregates without frank epithelial ulceration. Within the last year, I have observed a few examples of subtle halo lesions within the distal bowel in patients prepared with a polyethylene glycol solution. However, I remain suspicious that the incidence and endoscopic brightness or intensity of the halo sign are greater with the sodium phosphate preparation.
