Abstract

Weingarten et al. describe a case of asymptomatic methemoglobinemia detected by intraoperative blood gas monitoring in a patient who had been using the lidocaine patch 5% ⇓. The authors describe this as “the first report of methemoglobinemia that resulted from chronic use of transdermal lidocaine.” The lidocaine patch is approved for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia ⇓.
