Abstract

Preben Sepstrup (1988) raises some important issues in his discussion of my article, "The Growth of the French Videotex Systems and Its Implications for Consumers" (Mayer, t988). In particular, he highlights three issues with regard to the French videotex system: (a) how to define and measure its overall degree of "success," (b) how to obtain impartial and individual-level data regarding consumer use of various services, and (c) how to judge the extent to which consumer problems associated with the videotex medium arise and are resolved. I appreciate the opportunity that this response affords me to reflect in greater depth on these issues as well as provide some additional factual material.
