Abstract

We thank Drs Goetze and Kavsak and their respective colleagues for their interest in our study.1 Our identification of signal peptide of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNPsp)(17-26) was achieved through specific immunoaffinity purification followed by multiple tandem mass spectrometry with the use of the same antibody that is present in the assay. Cross-reactivity data demonstrated negligible interference from many other peptides, including other human peptide signal sequences and standard medications. Rat and sheep plasma samples display no observable immunoreactivity. Analysis of the BNPsp(17-26) amino acid sequence on the National Center for Biotechnology Information protein Basic Local Alignment Search Tool reveals that only the signal peptide of human …
