Abstract
Response: We appreciate the letter from Pfeilschifter et al1 regarding our article in which we demonstrated that activation of sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor-1 (S1P1) by FTY720 is neuroprotective against cerebral ischemia through the prevention of caspase-dependent apoptosis in neurons. Both lymphocytes and vascular endothelial cells have S1P1,2 through which FTY720 may exert protective effects against ischemic brain.
