Abstract

In a previous comment letter published in August 2009, Drs Griffith and Dancer hypothesised that surface disinfection by steam and microfibre cleaning may be ineffective in a hospital setting.1 Whereas some steam vapour system manufacturers recommend use of microfibre towels, some of the most scientifically studied steam vapour systems (Advanced Vapor Technologies, Edmonds, WA, USA) are recommended for use with simple terrycloth towels. Therefore, the two points of discussion, microfibre and steam vapour disinfection, may be separated for the purposes of informed discussion.
