Abstract

We earlier found that house dust mite (HDM) allergens, which occur mainly in mite bodies but not in feces (e.g., Der p 10, Der p 11, and Der p 14), are more frequently recognized by HDM allergic patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) than HDM allergic patients suffering from respiratory allergy (Banerjee et al., 2015). The fact that certain types of the mite body‒derived allergens such as Der p 11 do not become easily airborne and are recognized by >50% of patients with AD suggested that this allergen may be considered a major allergen in AD and that sensitization may eventually occur through the skin (Banerjee et al., 2015).
