Abstract
Background: Predicting response to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for depression remains difficult. Factors known to affect depression pharmacotherapy outcomes include childhood trauma and comorbid personality disorder. The impact of these on ECT outcomes is either unclear (personality disorder) or hitherto uninvestigated (trauma). The Self-Reported Assessment of Personality-Abbreviated Scale (SAPAS) is a validated personality screening questionnaire, with a cut-off score of 3 indicating likely personality disorder.
