Abstract

We appreciate the comments made by Professor Nonogaki regarding our article entitled “Highly Purified Eicosapentaenoic Acid Increases Interleukin-10 Levels of Peripheral Blood Monocytes in Obese Patients With Dyslipidemia,” and we sincerely respond to his comments here (1). First, Professor Nonogaki described a recent systemic review and meta-analysis demonstrating that supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids is not associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality or major coronary events (MCE). However, the median dose of omega-3 including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in 20 trials referenced by this meta-analysis was 1.0 g/day, and the median dose of EPA in these 20 trials was only 0.46 g/day.
