Abstract

This study aimed to model the influence of adsorption operating factors on the treatment of textile wastewaters using activated carbon (AC) derived from agro waste via historical data design. For this study, the dataset was obtained from published articles in different journals. The data were modelled and analysed via RSM (response surface methodology) and HDD (historical data design) on Design expert software. Operating factors considered in the study were AC’s surface area, AC’s particle size, initial pH, dosage of AC, solution temperature, adsorbate concentration, and contact time. ANOVA (analysis of variance) with correlation coefficient (R2) will be used to test the significance and influence of the operating factors on the pollutants percentage removals (%) at a significance level of p < 0.05. From the ANOVA, the three RSM models were statistically significant. The effect of process factors was also thoroughly analysed. Under the determined optimum process conditions obtained by numerical optimisation, the maximum removal efficiencies were observed to be 99.61%, 100.0% and 100.0% for VY4, CR and MG dyes, respectively. The desirability values of these parameters were observed to be 1.000 (unity) for the optimum optimisation run.
