Abstract

The spectral characteristics of retinula cells within three Drosophila visual mutants ( w, sev and ora) were determined using monochromatic Gaussian white-noise as a stimulus. It was found that sev is more sensitive at 460 nm and less sensitive at 350 nm than the w mutant. There was no response in ora retinula cells to any light stimulus. The data suggest the possibility that the two central retinula cells (7 and 8) contribute to the response of the peripheral retinula cells (1–6).
