Abstract

Field experiments with tomato plants were conducted to study the effect of separate and combined foliar applications of boron and Alar at different levels on growth, yield and some biochemical characteristics. Single application of Alar enhanced and increased the yield of fruits. Moreover, sprays containing boron stimulated growth and productivity, as reflected by significant increases in leaf area, fresh and dry weights of shoots, yield of fruit and weight of fruit. The growth-promoting effect of boron was associated with increase of amino-nitrogen in mature leaves. The observed increase in total sugars, acidity and percentage dry weight of fruits support the rapid translocation of metabolites from leaves in the presence of boron, The greatest stimulation of growth and yield resulted from a boron—Alar mixture.
