Abstract

Glutathione reductase (GR) activity was determined in the plasma and red cells from a number of species (human, horse, cattle, sheep, chicken, rabbit, rat). The species with the highest plasma activity (horse and cattle) had the lowest red cell activity. Unlike red cell GR, plasma GR was not significantly stimulated by the addition of flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). In species with high plasma GR activity the determination of whole blood FAD activity coefficients may not be a good index of riboflavin status.
