Abstract

The response of Amaranth ( Amaranthus hybridus ) to different rates and times of nitrogen (N) application was studied at Teaching and Research Farm,University of Ado-Ekiti in the late seasons of 2003 and 2004. The N was applied at 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg/ ha as urea (46%N) at 1, 2 and 3 weeks after sowing.Growth parameters and total yield were significantly influenced (P<0.05) by N rates and times of application. Plant height, stem girth, leaf number, leaf area and total yield increased with N level. The 50kg N/ha gave the highest values. Application of N at 3 weeks after sowing gave the highest values of growth parameters and yield.
