Abstract

The response functions of a 12.7 cm diam., 12.7 cm long NaI(Tl) scintillation detector to photons in the energy range of 1–400 MeV, positive and negative muons in the energy range of 1–300 MeV, were calculated by the Monte Carlo simulation codes EGS4 and MARS14, respectively. These response functions will be used to estimate the photon and muon energy spectra over this wide energy range using the NaI(Tl) scintillation detector, in cosmic rays and in the high-energy electron accelerator environment.
