Abstract

Dr. Bayes has posed an interesting question regarding use of meningococcal vaccine for college students. Outbreaks of meningococcal disease on college campuses are a source of anxiety and disruption of activities. The American College Health Association has recommended that college students consider vaccination against meningococcal disease. However, the actual incidence of meningococcal disease among college students is very low based on data obtained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The risk for college students does not appear to be increased as compared to the general population.
