Abstract

Purpose: Changes in populations over recent years has resulted in a more culturally diverse client group accessing healthcare, including physiotherapy. More recently, there has also been an increase in the number of international students recruited to BSc Physiotherapy Courses in the UK. Following the first clinical placements of the new cohort of international students at Coventry University, feedback was received from practice educators and students that some international students were experiencing challenges on placement relating to cultural differences between themselves and both the clinical staff and the clients they were treating. The purpose of this research was to explore the experiences of these students and their practice educators on clinical placement in order to inform the development of effective methods of support for students and staff.
