Abstract

An outbreak of undifferentiated respiratory illness among children in a convalescent hospital is described. The illness was characterized by fever of short duration, erythema of the palpebral conjunctivae, rhinorrhea, cough, pharyngeal erythema and rhonchi. Serologic and virologic evidence is presented indicating simulanteous infection in the involved children with type 1 hemadsorption virus and a newly-recognized HeLa enterovirus (HE virus).
