Abstract
The discipline of radiation oncology has incorporated significant technological advances into its practice during recent years. Examples of these advances are the implementation of intensity-modulated radiotherapy, image-guided radiotherapy, and respiratory-gated radiotherapy. The technology and integration of these advances into clinical practice continue to evolve. These techniques have the common goal of the better conformation of a radiation dose distribution to the intended target volume, thereby potentially decreasing the toxicity of the treatment and concurrently permitting dose escalation and improved tumor control.
