Abstract

Thyroxine treatment resulted in increased swimming and jumping, an altered swimming pattern, and decreased oxygen consumption. Thiourea had opposite effects to thyroxine on behavior, but also inhibited respiration. Thyroxine significantly reversed the effects of thiourea on respiration. There was no oxygen debt and no significant excretion of lactic acid. The respiratory quotient indicated normal carbohydrate metabolism. The anomalous nature of the results is discussed.
