Resource Optimization Using Virtual Machine Placement: A Survey

Abstract

In real world scenarios millions of virtual machines (VMs) are hosted by Cloud Computing Datacenters. The host is withheld by a virtual machine and the process of choosing the apt host for the virtual machine is called as placement or virtual machine placement (VMP). This has aroused as a difficult confrontation in cloud infrastructure management and a promising technique for the optimization of cloud resource utilization, energy consumption and traffic minimization. This work provides a review on various VM placement algorithms/strategies to maximize resource utilization and minimize energy consumption.
