Abstract

Introduction: The free fibular flap (FFF) is commonly used for mandibular reconstruction due to its length, consistent blood supply and relative ease of harvest. The fibular bone has been demonstrated to maintain mass over time conferring a potential advantage over other osseous flaps. However when using the FFF in conjunction with a reconstruction plate resorption may occur secondary to stress shielding. There is no published literature of changes in fibular bone height in patients treated for osteoradionecrosis (ORN).
