Resonant photoemission study of Gd_Lu and Dy_Lu multilayers

Abstract

By preparing the multilayered films of Gd-Lu and Dy-Lu on Si(111), the valence-band and 4f spectra have been investigated in the region of the 3d absorption edge of these rare earths using resonant photoemission spectroscopy. The new satellite structure has been found above the 4f main peak for pure Gd film, but this structure disappeared in Gd-Lu film. For pure Dy and Dy-Lu multilayers such structure could not be observed. The disappearance of the satellite in the Gd-Lu multilayers is ascribed to be due to intervening effect of Lu between Gd layers.
