Abstract

Valence band photoelectron spectra, in the photon energy range 30–70 eV, have been recorded from polycrystalline Ta. The 5d emission is observed to be resonantly enhanced above the 5p excitation threshold. Different parts of the d-band show the same qualitative behavior. The enhancement can be attributed to a quantum interference effect between direct 5d emission and a super-Coster-Kronig transition. Similar effects have been previously observed on other transition metals.
