Abstract

In this paper, an e-bike charging solution for two wheelers, is presented. The proposed e-bike charger is realised by a Cuk converter followed by a LLC resonant converter with an improved power quality input current indices. The pulse width modulated (PWM) Cuk converter is operated in discontinuous inductor conduction mode (DCIM) of its input side inductor, which leads to a voltage follower approach for input current shaping. Thus, the control loop is greatly simplified as it consists of a single voltage loop. The e-bike battery charging algorithm is implemented in variable frequency controlled half bridge LLC resonant converter followed by diode rectification at its output stage. Furthermore, a 550W, constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charger with a maximum current rating of 10A is developed to charge a 20AH e-bike battery. Moreover, the behaviour of the proposed converter is exhaustively analysed under steady state and transient conditions and the power quality of input line current is found to comply the international standard of IEC — 61000 — 3 — 2.
