Abstract

The relative quantum efficiency of the 4S3/2 → 4I15/2 emission of Er3+ ions in LaF3 at 295 K can be explained well by the theory of Yokota and Tanimoto in which the donor-donor energy transfer is regarded as diffusion of excitation. The energy transfer constant CDD between donor ions obtained from the diffusion coefficient is in good agreement with the value calculated by the theory of Dexter.
