Abstract

The process of elastic scattering of two x-ray photons by a many-electron atom is theoretically investigated. In the region of scattered photon energies of ( is the energy of the incident photon, is the energy of the ionization threshold for the atomic shell), we predict a well-expressed resonance structure as well as a strong angular anisotropy for the differential scattering cross section. A quantitative estimate for the magnitude of the observed cross section is given.
