Abstract

Summary form only given. We report a study of the dispersion effects in an actively mode-locked Nd:glass laser. We found that the resonant dispersion played an important role in the actively mode-locked Nd:glass laser. With a large positive group velocity dispersion (GVD), the laser produced incoherent pulses. Around zero GVD the pulse quality was still poor, which we believe was due to the resonant dispersion. In the deep negative GVD region, the influence of the resonant dispersion was reduced and the laser generated pulses as short as 83 fs.
