Abstract

The dipole-like structure of certain resonances (notably the A 2 meson) is obtained in a simple way. A pole is inserted in the generalized phase space factor of the single channel Veneziano-Lovelace K-matrix formalism near an ordinary resonance. The occurrence of the pole near the resonance appears accidental within the single-channel framework. The sum of the widths of the double resonance peaks approximates the width of the single resonance which would have been obtained had the extra pole been absent. The present approach is related to several previous descriptions.
