Abstract

Resonance behavior of the Raman scattering is investigated for 1LO(\(\varGamma\)) and 2LO(\(\varGamma\)) lines in the energy range of the X 6 + ×X 6 - direct exciton in TlCl. It is found that the exciton plus photon picture is better than the polariton picture in describing the dependence of the Raman intensity on the incident photonenergy. This suggests that a usual polariton scheme seems to be no more adequate to represent the photo-excited state in TlCl and its origin is discussed. A weak resonance behavior of 2LO(\(\varGamma\)) scattering is found in the energy range of the X 6 + ×X 6 - phonon-forbidden indirect exciton absorption edge.
