Abstract

Resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) spectroscopic studies of two-photon resonant vibronic bands of jet-cooled vinyl chloride, 1,1-dichloroethylene, cis-1,2-dichloroethylene, trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, and trichloroethylene are presented. Polarization ratio measurements assist in the determination of orbital symmetries; in some cases previous assignments are revised. While excitations to Rydberg states from the C=C π orbital dominate the observed REMPI spectra, weaker transitions in the 65 65 000-69 000-cm -1 region are tentatively assigned as two-photon excitations of chlorine lone-pair electrons to 3s Rydberg orbitals
