Abstract

We report a convective heat transfer enhancement driven by flow resonance downstream of a natural convection boundary layer that is perturbed by a moderate impinging jet. Our experimental observations and large eddy simulations confirm flow resonance between the thermal boundary layer and a periodic flow at the jet-impinging region. Downstream heat transfer enhancement from the baseline of natural convection exceeds 40%. The results support the development of efficient heat transfer enhancement methods.
